Re: [OPEN] A New Generation

After a few moments of silently eating, Jun slid one of her two notebooks out from under her plate and wrote something that took about a second for her to put down on paper before she slid it over to the otherside of the table infront of Toshi.

Toshi read the note.

He wrote his own name down in kanji and returned it with a grin, wondering what Jun would guess at the pronunciation.

Rather than annoyed, Jun was somewhat amused by the fact that Toshi seemed to forget that he doesn't have to write notes to her. She decided instead of writing another note, she would mouth and sign her response.
First she began by pointing at the center of her chest, then at her ear, and finally to Toshi.
{I can hear you}
There was a small pause as she held her palms up and looked on either side of herself before looking back to Toshi.
There's not really anybody else around
To finish, she pointed at Toshi before making a rolling motion with her hand away from her mouth.
{You can talk}
She punctuated her statement with a smirk as she returned to eating.

While Toshi didn't know sign, he got her meaning well enough.

"I know that," he said, his mischievous grin fading. "I just wanted to see something. A game of sorts, I guess."

He started in on his katsu curry.

The mention of a game seems to pique her interest as she looks up from her plate and sits up slightly. She sets her food aside for a second to inquire the nature of the game.

What kind of game?

"Well, I was going to see what you made of my name," he answered. "The kanji are rather uncommon, so I wanted to see what you thought the reading was. They say you can tell a lot about how someone thinks from the way they talk.

"But I guess that's pretty lame, huh."

Oh...
Jun's small smile disappears as she gives Toshi a blank look for a few seconds before pressing her lips together while nodding her head shallowly a couple times.

She goes back to her food, looking like she's almost trying to ignore what just happened.

What – the – fuck – are you talking about, genius?
Stop.
Restart.

Jun looks up to Toshi as he spoke, somewhat startled by the suddenly broken silence. In response she closes her eyes and nods her head slowly in a bow, before continuing to toy with the last bits off her meal that she didn't seem overly eager to finish.

Jun expressed several emotions fairly quickly one after the other.
First she looked up towards Toshi in surprise.
Shortly after that, she furrowed her brow for just a second.
Lastly, she nodded her head swiftly as she seemed to lighten up.

How did you know?
Do you play too?

"I saw your 'notes,'" he said with a grin.
"And no, I'm not very good at RTS's. But I'd recognize 'Zerg' and 'Protoss' any day.
I play mostly RPG's or FPS's, really."

Jun is now ignoring her meal, despite it being unfinished.

I've tried some rpg's before and they were pretty fun, but I never really got into them.
I'm surprised you're not good at rts's, you seemed pretty smart in class.

"Eh. Too many things to focus on at once, I guess," he said between bites.
Now a TBS I can rock all day. But RTS's and MOBA's are too hectic for me.
And what's that have to do with being smart?"

It takes alot of intelligence to be good at RTS's.
-Making decisions and adjustments quickly
-Predicting what your opponent is going to do
-Keeping track of several things at once
-Coming up with solid builds

"I get that," he replied.
"Just the way you put it made it sound like you thought I wasn't smart because I don't play RTS's."

"I guess we'll just have to play sometime and see who's really smarter," he said with a smirk.

Jun let out a short chuckle, more noticeable by the movement in her shoulders than the sound of air coming out her nose.

I don't think that would be a fair test.

"Make it multiple events then. A decathlon of games," he said, his grin increasing.

"You pick some, I pick some, we get a week or so to practice, then see who's best."

Finishing his chūkadon, he unwrapped his anpan, tearing the sweet pastry in two. "Want some? I think I got too much."

What's the reward for this competition?

Re: [OPEN] A New Generation

Jun pondered for a few moments, deep in thought, and slowly it seemed like she was coming to the realization that she really couldn't think of anything as her shoulders began to raise, but then an idea popped into her head. At that moment of victorious conjuration, Jun's finger shot up for a second before she wrote something down quite quickly and enthusiastically.

If I win, you shall assist me in all academic pursuits within the boundaries of the law, the academy's disciplines and procedures, and reason.

"So let me get this straight."

Toshi's grin grew even wider.

"If you prove yourself smarter than me, you want me to tutor you?
That lacks a little bit of said reason."

To her, the idea seemed perfectly logical and she was unphased by him challenging it.
You seem to have no problem spending your time on tedious things such as study. While I would rather conserve and spend as much of my energy and time on personal pursuits.

"So you don't want me to tutor you, you want me to do your work for you," he replied with a sour affectation.
"Even if I'm proven not as smart as you, so your grades would go down?"

Jun's response takes quite some time, and it is obvious she is putting thought into what she is writing down.
Grades don't represent someone's intelligence. Instead, they represent a mix of aptitude, diligence, and memory. Anyways, I wouldn't ask you to do all my work for me, just make the process easier. Such as sharing notes, answering any questions I may have, and maybe a bit more if need be. You seem to be "in your element" here at school, while I am not.
