Fighting Fit Form (Open)

Post by Kaim Matsura on Wed May 07, 2014 8:58 pm

Kaim's journey to the gym didn't take long. He simply walked with a neutral face, asked someone who looked like a teacher for directions and got there. Plain and simple.

Kaim was already in gym gear, so changing was no chore. It simply meant taking off his greatcoat and hanging it up.
He walked in and saw a galore of equipment. Some your standard stuff, power rack, rowing machines and such. Others were clearly specialised for certain common disabilities. There was punching bags too in the corner, which was his target.
Kaim breathed slowly in, then out. He tensed various body parts and checked his hands were working properly. The prosthetic hands are working fine, so all clear. Kaim moved like a dancer to the punching bag, as both dancers and martial artists share a low centre of balance which with it comes a walk that is efficient and energy saving in movement.

Well, this is something I have not engaged in for an extended period of time.
Kaim stretched his arms and did some probing jabs. Good feedback, wrists are ok. Shoulders are a bit stiff.
He then did a simple side kick. Also good. Posterior is a bit stiff, but otherwise workable.

Once he got a flow going he picked up the pace. Kaim alternated between different types of punches and kicks, letting his body go and flowing with his instincts he had gained over the years. He wasn't paying much attention to his surroundings, though his hitting was not so fast that it would utterly exhaust him or would not hear anyone.

Toshi lifted his head up when he heard someone else enter the gym.

He was on the opposite corner of the gym floor, mostly obscured from view by the various benches and weight machines between them.
He watched the newcomer walk over to the punching bags for a moment, then returned his attention to his own exercises.

Silently finishing his last set, he now totaled 500 pushups and 500 crunches. To most people, doing so many in a single session was unthinkable, but for Toshi, who had done such workouts for years now, it was only moderately tiring.

He pushed himself up of the floor and stood, his black belt making a soft "swish" as the tails fell against his white shitabaki. He wiped the sweat from his brow, enough to give a sheen to his pale tan skin, but not so much that it soaked his white tank top. He checked the clock, confirming that it had been precisely an hour since he started.

He grabbed his uwagi from the bench and put it on, tucking it under the black belt with gold embroidery - "Shotokan Karatedo" on one end and his name on the other. He walked towards the other, wordlessly observing his movements.

Tall and thin, built much like himself. Braided dark red hair, dyed, obviously. Numerous scars across his body. He clearly had some fighting experience. Trained, too. Jujutsu, from the looks of it.

"Back leg looks a little stiff," Toshi said, leaning against a nearby squat cage.

Kaim lightened the impact of his hits to make hearing easier, but otherwise didn't look away to keep concentration.
"Been a long time since its been used. The last kick this leg did broke someone's leg."

He went for a finishing back kick that made the bag lift into the air, so he caught it with his hand and then stopped. The guy was right, his back leg was off. Looks like someone needs to hit the squats.

"And you have a good eye." Kai twirled around. "Shotokan, very traditional."
Kai stepped to the squat rack. He would go for proper routine, stretching himself with just the bar, then incrementally adding weight. Stops muscles getting badly sore or overestimating.

Kai was doing his first set of 8 with just the bar. "Would a fellow blackbelt know if there is any martial arts here? Or am I overestimating people's capabilities to adapt from missing limbs?". His emotionless tone made this black humour even worse, since it gave the intonation that it wasn't even a joke. His bad cynical humour is trademark of him and has earned him dodgy glances since he was in school. Alyssa tried to change him wi....well that was before.
"Hmmm, disabled jokes will probably is probably a bad topic in this environment." Again, a cold emotionless tone.
He may be shot on the spot if he doesn't change themes for jokes soon. Personalities maybe? Or stereotypes, that was always a popular cynic's choice.

"I'd say so," Toshi replied flatly, finding little humor in the situation. "And no, no martial arts program here, unfortunately."

Toshi watched quietly as Kaim performed his practice reps.

"Although I bet you could find a good dōjō down in Sendai. Surely for jujutsu too – very traditional."

He let the retort which shouted to him "Right back at'cha!" slide.

Kaim would add 10kg and then squat 8 until about 100kg, where he'll lower 5 reps and keep going until he hits his limit of max weights. Kaim needed to see just how much strength he has since his absence of training. Last year when he still trained he could do 150kg 5 reps, but a year not training can have a real effect.

"Yes and no. I did German ju-jutsu which also involves striking, pressure points and just about everything else. I'll see what there is though."

It was not a tort, but a simple statement of fact.
After all, jujutsu had been around since the days of the samurai, long before the birth of karate.
Besides, if Toshiaki had a problem with someone, he made it perfectly clear.

A rather abrasive personality, Toshi noted to himself.

Regardless, he continued to observe, ready to spot Kaim should he need it.

Kaim hit his limit at 120kg, only kust managing the fifth rep.
"Hmm I've gotten weaker. I'll just need to train now, now that I have access to a gym."
Kaim decided to leave now, already having worked himself hard.
"Well, I'm off."
And with that, Kaim just left.
