Lazing about (open)

Post by Ai Futeki on Sat Feb 09, 2013 11:48 pm

Ai sits atop the wall surrounding her Estate, swinging her legs as a gentle breeze blows her hair slightly.

I wonder if I should do anything today... Nah, I think I'll just stay home and relax... she yawns and lays down on the fence, falling asleep in seconds.

Sayuri had decided to go out and explore the town surrounding Yamaku. I may not like it here, but if I'm going to be living here from now on, I might as well get to know the area. No point in getting lost in a place I don't want to be in. The road down from Yamaku was surprisingly steep, and on more than one occasion she had lost control of her wheelchair, but she had at least managed not to fall out or crash.

It's a start. I'm finally getting the hang of this damn thing.

Sayuri slowly wheeled herself through the town, taking in the sights. The local convenience store. The park. The tea shop. The Shanghai. Interesting name. But what caught Sayuri's attention most of all was the massive walled estate. It must have been even larger than her own home, with an interesting gothic style that was rare in this part of Japan. I wonder who could live in a place like this.

Sayuri was not generally a curious person, preferring to live and let live. But there was something about this mansion. She decided to satisfy her curiosity, and wheeled herself over to the estate wall. That's strange. There's a person sleeping on top of the wall. Surely that can't be comfortable. I wonder if they live here... Sayuri was about to call out to the person to ask them when she remembered it was impolite to wake someone who was sleeping. But then, it's also impolite to watch someone sleeping...and I'm sure it's also impolite for me, having arrived, to leave without introducing myself...what to do...

Ai had woken up to the sounds of the wheelchair and was in the process of getting up, she was still half asleep and was mumbling to herself. "Good morning..."

she just now notices there was another person there. "Hm...? Oh, I didn't notice you there... I'm Ai Futeki, I own this Estate..." She yawns rather loudly and sits up on the wall.

"Nice to meet you, Futeki-san. My name is Motozaki. Sayuri Motozaki." Sayuri bows respectfully. "This is a very nice estate you have. You should be proud of it."

she nods her thanks. "Unfortunately, I can't enjoy the scenery like I used to. I can only appreciate the space and my housemaids." She yawns again. "I've noticed that you're speaking from a rather low position, might you be sitting down? The ground is rather uncomfortable, that's why I always sit up here."

Sayuri scowls. Surely it's obvious?

"Yes. I'm in a wheelchair."

She slowly comes down from her position on the wall. "Ah, I assume you go to Yamaku then? I was enrolled there fifteen years ago."

"Yes, I go to Yamaku." I don't want to go there. But it would be impolite to say so. Speaking of impolite...she knows my disability. If she went to Yamaku...

"If you don't mind me asking..." The question dances on Sayuri's tongue for a moment as she thinks of how best to phrase it. "...why were you enrolled there?"

She points to her eyes, which are slightly clouded. "I went blind a few years ago, I was at Yamaku to learn Braille before it happened."

Sayuri cannot think of anything to say besides, "...oh." So that's why she didn't realize I was in a wheelchair...stupid Sayuri. And didn't she say she can't appreciate the scenery? Sayuri looked back at the mansion. Come to think of it...surely losing my sight would have been a hell of a lot worse than my present position.

"I'm sorry to hear that."

she waves a hand in dismissal. "I've gotten used to it, my other senses were drastically heightened when I lost my sight, so I can enjoy smells and taste more. speaking of taste, would you like to come in for tea?

she walks along the wall until she reaches the gate, which is already open, revealing a large rose garden surrounding a cobblestone path, which is being tended to by a few of her housemaids. she walks over to one of them.

"Can you prepare a fine blend of Chamomile for our guest here?" the maid rushes into the house as Ai returns to her guest.

Sayuri admires the garden for a moment before Ai returns. "This really is a lovely garden. The one at my old home was nice, but I don't think it was this big."

she nods. "The roses smell fantastic, don't they? I would prefer a smaller home, but I need one of this size to accommodate my staff..." she points to the various maids scattered about the premises.

"I see...so you keep them for sentimental reasons."

Sayuri thought back to her old kendo blade, the one her parents had hung in her dorm room. No...it's not the same. These are people, living people, and if Ai lets them go they'll be out of a job. A kendo blade is just a fancy block of wood.

...actually, speaking of jobs...

Maid cafes... "I see." The verbal faux pas barely registered as Sayuri's mind became occupied with other things. Maid cafes don't seem a very...reputable way to make money. They're there to indulge the fantasies of perverts.

It occurs to Sayuri that there may be more than one reason for the high number of maids at the estate. Have I just wandered into a den of sin? No, Sayuri...reserve your judgement. How would you feel if people judged you because of your wheelchair? Sayuri felt a pulse of anger at the very notion. Precisely. No, let's not jump to conclusions. Just because this woman owns a chain of maid cafes, I'm sure she is very kind and respectable. She certainly seems to be thus far.

"Business is all about what sells, I honestly didn't expect Kitsune Kissa to take off like it did. Ten years and I already have over 200 locations..." She sighs then smiles. "but enough about me, let's go inside and you can tell me about yourself over tea."

Ai takes them through a long hallway which leads to a large room with a great view of the garden. a maid soon enters with an expensive-looking teaset. "Please, make yourself comfortable."
