BACKSTORY:
- Conception:
- In the year 2000, Wade Wilson, a legendary mercenary, was just engaged to Vanessa, his long-term girlfriend. Their family life seemed perfect – they were young, happy and very much in love. But this happiness didn't last long, as just a few months later, Wade was diagnosed with terminal skin cancer. Not wanting to burden Vanessa with having to deal with a cancer patient, he broke off the engagement and left her. The heartbroken girl would not hear anything from the love of her life for five long years.
Through his job, Wilson learned of a top-secret experiment performed in a Canadian medical facility. If successful, that experiment could grant anyone immunity from any disease. Realizing this is his only chance to return to normal life, the mercenary agreed to undergo the procedure, alongside two dozen more volunteers. Out of all of them, he was the only one that survived it.
The experiment proved successful beyond the researchers' widest hopes – Wade gained not only immunity from all diseases, but from aging and any physical harm as well, essentially becoming immortal. But the experiment also accelerated his skin cancer to levels far beyond those seen in normal cancer patients. As a result, Wilson's body became covered in hideous scars, and his memory and sanity were also lost in the process. After spending a few months trapped in the facility and researched by its scientists, he finally managed to escape and continued his mercenary work under the name Deadpool.
Throughout the next few years, the researchers desperately tried to replicate the experiment, with no luck. They had no idea why, but Wade Wilson was the only test subject who ever survived the process. Ultimately, they concluded it was something in his genes. Desperate for results, they attempted to do the only thing that seemed logical – they attempted cloning. After multiple failed attempts, they finally managed to create a viable egg that held most of Wade Wilson's genetic information, including the healing factor that the original did not have at birth. After being carried by a surrogate mother for 9 months, subject DP-01 was finally born as a healthy baby boy in 2005.
Since DP-01 was technically a mutant, his implanted healing factor would not activate until he reached puberty. Not wanting to waste any time, the scientists began researching other possible ways to activate it early. Only problem was, in early 2006, Deadpool returned to the facility, armed and dangerous. He viciously slaughtered each and every one of the scientists and guards involved with the experiment that had ruined his life 5 years ago. Eventually, he managed to find DP-01 and learned the story behind the baby. Disgusted, he tried to shoot it, but couldn't bring himself to do it. Instead, he took it from the facility before blowing it up, then left it in the care of Vanessa, whom he finally visited after more than 5 years.
The woman never managed to truly move on after Deadpool had left her. Thus, she gladly agreed to take care of the baby, despite the fact (or maybe because of it) that the love of her life was gone forever. Deadpool promised to send the two enough money so they can live comfortably, then disappeared from their lives forever. In his honor, Vanessa named the boy Wade Wilson Jr.
- Past:
- Wade Jr. spent his childhood just like any normal boy would – he was playful, full of energy, and occasionally pretty bratty. His mother never told him of his origins, for obvious reasons, though she would often joke about him being “like a clone of his father” whenever he did something Wade Sr. used to do in his pre-Deadpool days.
His childhood wasn't really anything special. He had the same hobbies like other kids his age – sports, cartoons, and whatever the newest fad was. Due to the fact that he never had a father, he was closer to his mom than normal and, unnaturally for someone his age, considered her his best friend (though it also helped that Vanessa was a really awesome person who could still care for her son without being overly obsessive about it). That friendship had the side effect of making Wade less obedient than he would've been under normal circumstances, but he never really did anything out of line during that age.
However, everything changed when he entered middle school. First of all – his natural charm and good looks, combined with his confidence, sense of humor and natural prowess for sports, quickly made him one of the most popular students, especially among his female classmates. Girls wanted to be with him, and guys wanted to be him. He was the cool kid, and if he considered you a friend, that meant you were cool too. Naturally, this fame quickly went over his head and his ego became inflated beyond measure. By his second year of high school, he already had a girlfriend (one of the prettiest girls in the school, who confessed to him after watching him play basketball one day) and was more or less acting like the celebrity he was. After losing his virginity on his 15th birthday (with a different girl), Wade thought his life couldn't possibly get any better. He truly had everything – good looks, fame, money, women, etc. So naturally, the only direction he could go from there was down.
After graduating from middle school, he received a letter from his father, the first one of its kind. The letter contained nothing really personal – no “Hey, son, let's eat ice cream sometimes!” or “Sorry for abandoning you and your mom all those years ago!”. Instead, it contained a check for 10 thousand dollars, and a note that said “1 million more just for you if you graduate from Yamaku Academy”. This letter was, of course, confusing as hell. After doing some research, Wade found out that “Yamaku Academy” was a school for disabled kids in Japan. Studying there wouldn't have been a problem – his mother, Vanessa, was half-Japanese and he was fluent in the language from an early age. But still, the boy couldn't comprehend why his father was willing to give him a million dollars just to study at some Japanese school for cripples.
In reality, Deadpool had monitored his son's development very closely, and eventually determined that he was kind of a douche. Wade Jr. was a selfish, arrogant, rude womanizer, which wasn't exactly something a parent should take pride of. Thus, the mercenary decided to send him to live to the same town that changed him for the better 15 years ago, in the hopes that his son would change as well. Realizing that without the million dollars he had little hope of going into the university he wanted, Wade Jr. reluctantly accepted the offer and moved to Japan to study at Yamaku Academy.
NOTE: Keep in mind that Wade's healing factor hasn't been activated yet. Any injuries he receives prior to the in-game activation will not magically heal up, as expected.
