APPEARANCE: Masato is a very tall man (for someone from Japan) – he is almost six feet tall, yet the effect of his height is somewhat diminished by his small hunch. His face is quite handsome, if a bit stern. He has prematurely white hair (a direct result of the medication he's taking) and red eyes, though one of them is damaged and covered by an eye-patch. He generally tends to dress quite officially – wearing nice, black suits almost everywhere (except at home, where he tends to wear slightly more casual clothes). Due to his legs being relatively cheap cybernetics, Masato needs to use a cane to move. While it's not impossible for him to walk without it, it certainly looks very difficult for him, so he prefers to simply use it at all times. This has given him a small, yet not very noticeable hunch.

BACKSTORY: Masato was born in 1981, in a family that, while not exactly swimming in money, was still pretty well set financially. He never lacked anything in his life, but not to the point of getting spoiled. From a young age, he expressed a huge interest in science, more specifically in engineering. As a kid, he would often construct simple mechanisms from whatever materials he could find. His parents, finding potential in this hobby, eventually hired a tutor to teach him the basics of engineering. By the time he graduated from high school, the boy was already constructing things that could be considered quite complicated for his age.
After graduating from engineering school in 2005, Masato and a classmate of his decided to create a small business in order to sell the inventions they created. While the company wasn't exactly a large success, the patents they sold and the royalties from their inventions still earned them enough money to expand and hire new staff. One of their new recruits was a brilliant young woman named Tomoe. Masato fell in love with her almost instantly and married her early 2006. Soon afterward, their little daughter was born. That was the last time when he was truly happy.
Eleven years later, Toriyama lost control of the car he was driving and got into a terrible accident. His wife and daughter passed away in the crash, while Masato was mortally injured. The only way he could be saved was by undergoing a surgery to replace his limbs, as well as some of his internal organs, with cybernetics. The surgery was extremely costly (even considering the fact that the cybernetics he purchased weren't even expensive ones, relatively speaking) and left him without a penny. As a result, he was forced to sell off the assets of his company to his friend, losing it as well. On top of that, he was forced to take medication for the rest of his life to prevent his body from rejecting the implants.
For the next four years, Masato began taking jobs as a mind-for-hire, working as a freelance engineer for whoever would pay him. He lived a life of near-poverty, getting by with what little he received. In late 2020, he decided that he couldn't keep wasting his life like that. After wasting his talents for many years, he finally decided to use them to help others, which is why he decided to become a teacher. After undergoing a special course, Masato finally became a science teacher in Yamaku Academy in early 2021.

PERSONALITY: Generally, he doesn't really act like a good person, quite the opposite – he tends to be strict and serious almost all the time. That doesn't mean he doesn't care for his students, he's simply the kind of person who generally expresses little emotion. He might mellow down a little bit once he gets really close to someone, but don't expect a huge change in his character. He's just not someone you can have too much fun with. However, although he may not look it, he's a kind and caring person who truly wants to help his students in any way he can. He would always be up for a conversation, either in his office or somewhere else. Masato is someone who has gone through a lot of misfortune in his life, and is always able to offer good advice to people who are also having trouble.
