[Open] Late on the First Day

"Great...my first day at a new job and I'm 15 minuets late." Mihoko Ikina thought to her self as she approached the classroom door.
As she entered the classroom she said "Sorry for being late everyone, I got a little lost." then moved to the blackboard.
"My name is Ms.Ikina." she added as she wrote her name on the blackboard then turned to face the class and said "I thought I could use this first class together for me to get acquainted with all of you. So who'd like to go first?"

Student buzz about the new teacher that is suppose to be coming but with 15 minutes into the class every just relaxes and stays in the classroom until the door opens....
'Sorry for being late everyone, I got a little lost.'
Everyone takes their seats. A few student mumble in the back of the class
'I thought I could use this first class together for me to get acquainted with all of you. So who'd like to go first?'
No one decides to go first will at least not from Yuuji's line of sight ,sitting in the far,front right of the room and not loocking back, he shakes his head ansd shrugs
I'm going to have to be the brave one he thinks to himself
Yuuji looks around before raising his hand

Ms.Ikina notices the first volunteer right away.
"Oh good, now I don't have to make someone feel awkward by making them go first." she thought to herself
"Yes, you there in front. How about sharing something about your self as well as your name. That will help me remember everyone." she said as she moved over to her desk to take her seat. Anyone paying attention to her as she moved to take her seat noticed that she walked with a very slight limp.
Ms.Ikina certainly must of looked odd for a teacher in the sense that she was wearing a black ankle length skirt and a green and black t-shirt with a dark navy blue long sleeve t-shirt underneath. It was less professional and more casual from the looks of it.
Once seated she added "Also if you have any questions for me, feel free to ask."

Yuuji cracks his fingers and neck before standing up to shake off any nerves he had
no need to be embarrassed in front of someones first day He thought
He took on of his crutches giving his right leg a bit more leverage before clearing his throat and speaking
"Welcome Sensei. I-I'm Takahashi, Yuuji" he says while bowing "I don;t know what to say about myself s-so Ill just ask this... Umm... Why were you late?"

"Busted." Ms.Ikina thought to her self.
"Well, you see there are really two, no more like three reasons why I was late today..." She replied with a grin that said "you caught me!" "...Firstly my alarm didn't go off like it should of. Secondly since I'm still unpacking I had trouble finding the shirt I wanted to wear today. Then lastly, and this one is kind of embarrassing, I some how misplaced my leg." she finished with a rather embarrassed grin.
"I only said I'd got lost to try and cover what really happened." she added.

A few student ramble but they quiet down after a few moments
"You are new to the area? Well..."
Yuuji looks back at the rest of the students as they all glare at him to say something. Not one person going to help him he says
"W-Welcome to Y-Yamaku. Hope you enjoy your stay here...."
He smiles nervously.

Seeing how nervously Yuuji's smile looks Ms.Ikina thinks to herself "Oh boy, he sure looks nervous." she then says to Yuuji
"Thank you Takahashi, I'm sure I will." and tries her best to give him a reassuring smile.
Then turning again to address the rest of the class she said "SO! who'd like to go next?" as she thought to her self "please don't make me pick someone."

Chiharu looks up from her book, noticing the silence, she lazily raised her left hand and said, "I'm Chiharu Kinai."

"Nice to meet you Kinai. Would you like to share something about your self with me, or would you rather forego that as well and skip right to asking me a question?" Ms.Ikina said to Chiharu.

Chiharu lets out a short giggle from the reference to yuuji's greeting.
"Sure. I'm new here and I'm a freshman"

"Sure. I'm new here and I'm a freshman"
"Well it looks like we can be new here together then Kinai. Now what would you like to ask me? Don't be shy." Ms.Ikina said to Chiharu.
"This is kind of fun. I'm glad I thought of it, even if it was kind of on the fly." she thought to herself.

Rather than answering right away, she presses her lips together while her eyes wander the room before she abruptly breaks the silence to ask, "What experience do you have teaching?"

"What experience do you have teaching?"
Ms.Ikina let out a slight chuckle before answering.
"Well, let's see..." as she took a quick glance at her watch. "...looks like about 10 mins worth so far." she answered.
"Though to answer your question more directly this is my first actual teaching post. I have however done about a years worth of student teaching, but that was under the supervision of a full on teacher. So I guess you guys are kind of like first victims." she said.
Ms.Ikina then added "Sorry if that wasn't the answer you were hoping for. Well then who's next?"
So far so good. she thought to herself.

Noticing that no one else was volunteering Mizo mustered up his courage and stood up from his seat in the back of the room nearest the door to introduce himself to the new teacher.
"M-My name is T-Takameshi, Mizo...a-and I'm...I'm a Junior...I'm new here as well. It's a...a pleasure to meet you Ms.Ikina."

"M-My name is T-Takameshi, Mizo...a-and I'm...I'm a Junior...I'm new here as well. It's a...a pleasure to meet you Ms.Ikina."
"Oh, boy. This one seems kind of shy. I could have some fun with him, better not though. I have no idea what he's been through." Ms.Ikina thought to her self.
"It's a pleasure as well Takameshi, looks like your something about your self is sort of a copy & paste but that's all right I allow it. Now what would you like to ask me?" she responded.

Mizo looked down and stared at his desk and thought about his reply for a moment. He already knew his question, he just wasn't sure about asking it. He'd also noticed that some of the students in class were wondering about the same thing he was. After a bit of quiet contemplation he finally asked.
"Ummm....well...you see...it's just...I was...I was k-kind of...kind of wondering...about what you said e-earlier...umm...what did you mean by...you lost...your leg?"
His voice trailed off to almost a mumble as he said the words.He almost completely regretted having asked the question the second it left his mouth.
"That was too far, I shouldn't of asked something like that. She's going to be really angry at me!" he thought to himself. His regret and embarrassment showed on his face, there was no hiding it.

Ms.Ikina almost didn't hear what Mizo had said.
"Crap this kid looks like he's gonna run away at any second, I better calm him down." she thought.
"You look a little worried there Takameshi, just calm down. It's alright I'm not mad, I don't mind answering your question." she said.
"Hope that calmed him down."
"Now to answer your question..." she said as she stood up and moved out from behind her desk "...some of you may have guessed that I have a prosthetic leg." she continued as she lifted up the bottom of the left side of her skirt just enough to expose the prosthetic leg (about half way up the calf.) before continuing.
"I was in an accident when I was about 5 years old.They may have had to remove my leg, but they saved my life." she let the bottom of her skirt back down then went with her explanation.
"Like I said before I'm still unpacking, so I have boxes all over my apartment.I kind of took it off last night and forgot where this morning when I got up to get ready." she said with a slightly embarrassed smirk that quickly turned into a reassuring smile as she said.
"Don't worry though, it's not something that I normally do. All right then why don't you take your seat before you pass out Takameshi, and again it's a pleasure to meet you."
Ms.Ikina moved back over to her desk and took her seat once again before saying "OK then,would anyone else like to take a turn? If not why don't we all just talk amongst each other until the bell."

"O-Oh kay, t-thank you Ms.Ikina" Mizo replied as he practically wilted into his chair.
Mizo just wanted to blend into the classroom and disappear. Working up the courage like that and then asking a question like that. Even though she'd said it was fine he still regretted putting the new teacher on the spot like that.
"I just have to wait out the bell and then I can just disappear into the halls." he thought to himself as he glanced nervously at the classroom's rear door.

"Well, things could of gone worse I suppose." Ms.Ikina thought to her self as she sat at her desk and pretended to be busy while the students talked amongst themselves.
"Wait...Takameshi over there, he just looks like he wants to run away.I didn't think I freaked him out that much, wonder if he's OK?" as she thought to herself the bell suddenly rang.
"Wow, already?" she said to her self, then said aloud "Excuse me, Takahashi was it? Can I see you for a moment?"

As soon as Yuuji gets up he hears his name and points at himself looking over at Mihoko
"Me? Okay..."
He clears his throat. A bit nervous to why Ikina had asked for him. He makes his way to the front making sure a few students go before him and he stands up front
"Yes Sensei?"

She chuckles a little before saying
"Sensei. you know that makes you the first one of my students to call me that. Sorry, the reason I asked to see you was I'm kind of worried, about..." she pauses for a moment recalling the name "...Takameshi,Mizo I believe his name was. He seemed kind of...I dunno, freaked out I guess. Do you know him at all? Do you know if I said something to upset him? I'm just kind of worried, he sure seemed in a hurry to leave."

Yuuji looks back not seeing Mizo in sight.
"He left already. He is quick.." Yuuji mumbled to himself
"I do know him a bit. I met him the second he stepped foot onto this place."
Yuuji relaxes and takes a seat front center
"Don't worry, you did not say anything that may have scared him off. Well at least no that I know of." He shrugs
"Maybe his shyness got the better of him."

"Ah, I see. So he's got a shyness issue."
Ms.Ikina was lost in thought for a second then went on.
"So it must of taken a lot of courage for him to stand up in front of the class like that. Even more so to ask me a question with an answer like the one I gave. Hhhmmmm."
She stopped to think again then asked,
"Takahashi? I want to ask something of you. I think that If I tried to talk to him now it might make things worse. I was wondering if you'd talk to him since you said you know him a little, and assure him that what he asked me didn't bother me at all. I'd hate to chase a student off on my first day."
That same slightly embarrassed smile came across her face again as she added
"Sorry to ask this of you. If it helps any, I REALLY appreciate it in advance"

This could benefit both Mizo and Ikina sensei. Kill two birds with one stone.... he thinks to himself
"No worries. I'll talk with him when i get the chance to or when i see him. W-which ever comes first."
He smiles and gets up adjusting himself to a comfortable position on his crutches.
"But one thing bothers me sensei. Would it not be better if I kind of 'dragged' him over here and you tell him?"
He raises an eyebrow
"That way he would get rid of some of his shyness and he would feel more comfortable talking with you."

A smile spread over Ms.Ikina's face.
"You know Takahashi...I like the way you think. Lets try that and see how well it works." she replied.
