I've always been great at science. That's generally the only class I'll get high marks in.

The homework for Mutou's class is also short. Finally I get a teacher who understands that a lecture can hold attention of students longer than just homework. Should be all about the mind instead of the hand.

It also just so happens that I have no homework today at all. This day just keeps getting better and better!

I haven't drawn anything really all that interesting in a while so I think I will.

After a while of drawing I end up with what I call a 'Thesaurus.' A friendly, little, literate dinosaur.

As I sit there, proudly staring at my work, I don't notice that I haven't been covering my drawing like I usually do to prevent embarrassment. Before long, I find I am not the only one looking at it...

Peeks over his shoulder; "Oooooohhhh, a good artist, eh?"

He looks at the drawing, noting it's interestingness.

Shoot, someone saw my drawing.

I probably look like a child in front of a guy with this kind of work. Maybe I should of just stuck to cooler stuff...

Oh well, what's in the past is in the past.

"Oh, uh-heh-thanks."

I open my eyes to look into his.

Doesn't seem very threatening. Rather normal looking aside from the missing arm. Some times I forget how lucky I am compared to the other students here.

The difference between me and them is my disability is more of a hazard than a disability.

Wait, hold on a minute...

"Hey, what are you writing there?"

Shit, he thinks to himself. Well, it's only fair to show him the writing since I peeked at his drawing,
"Just a song, you can read it if you want; *hands him paper*"

"My name is Asterick and that's as far as I can explain,
Anyone who asks just gets a jumble of names.
Nothing to talk about here except how I fear death,
I'm not a crazy person nor am I insomniacally depressed.

I wish I could explain myself to people,
My obsession with anime and other things.
But my interests aren't considered the norm,
My life would be the worst porn

Because it'd have the most emotion and blood,
There'd be no sex; just a bear-skinned rug
And all these wannabe thugs trying to front me,
Ask me if I do dope or sell tree

But no one understands that just cause' I listen to hip-hop
Doesn't mean I smoke weed or listen to the drip-drop
Of a rainy day; I kissed my woman in the rain,
She's my wonderful world; she really eased the pain.

My mind is completely sane even if it snows,
No winter fever will have me in the cold with my blood spilled out
Or laid out on the sidewalk,
All I wish was someone listened when I talked.

[chorus]
When the lights go out and the sun comes up for better days...
Promise that you will, sing, about me.
Promise that you will, sing, about me.
When the moon falls down and the sun climbs up for better days...
Promise that you will, sing, about me.
Promise that you will, sing, about me.

Only sixteen and already forgot how to cope
With the wrongs of my peers and the constant use of dope
Which can be cleaned with a soap we call rehab,
When you come out of there; you'll only be sad.

School can be a drag sometimes but
When you wanna go home; you can be glad
That the stupid day is over; believe in four-leaf clovers
If you wanna have a lucky time when it's all over.

Put your hands up if you wanna dance and sing,
If you wanna marry her; then put it on a ring
And send her cute little good morning texts,
Put this World War emotion veteran to rest.

I only tried to put in the effort and time,
To really sit down and rewind your life backwards,
To sober up your own thoughts
Of the drunken little soul that was stolen from the cops.

And you wish you could of done more,
Sweat each tear drop from the pours of your face,
You were sprayed with mace over a year ago...
Hopefully that scar doesn't show.

[chorus]
When the sun goes out and the sky paints you on better days...
Promise that you will, sing, about me.
Promise that you will, sing, about me.
When your pride comes up, happiness sleeps for better days...
Promise that you will, sing, about me.
Promise that you will, sing, about me."

At first glance it seems like a poem and then I see how long it is and notice it has a chorus thanks to the parentheses.

A song?

The lyrics are too strong for one...

Ah, it must be a rap.

Then again there are always limitless possibilities and variables for everything. Never judge anything like that or else you may pick up the habit of doing to to people too.

"You know, I thought I was the only one who wrote like this."

I reach into my backpack and pull out a slip I had been writing.

"This by far my most brutal piece I've made but it's something you may like."

'Though, my style is fairly dynamic' is what I should probably say.

The sheet has a staff scribbled on it with the sheet music for the vocals on the chorus and next to it reads:

"(Chorus)
There isn't room for discussion
There is no other choice
It's best you do not question
All against you shall rejoice
Adrenaline runs it's courses
My mind is all made up
So I'm guessing that you know this much is true
I will end you

(Guitar playing melody of chorus' second half)

I know that you've been running
Been running far indeed
But you can not escape me
Your pleas I will not heed

You sprint away from your past
When you know you can't outlast
I am your retribution
This is your execution
(This is your execution)

(Chorus)

It's really no problem for me
To finish you here and now
You have made an enemy
Who will gut you like a cow

What exists in you is all fear
Salvation's drawing near
I have made myself clear
So put your fists up
(So put your fists up)
(solo for guitar)
(Cut all but a slow bass riff)

(Rap)
Whats up? Oh hey I know you, man
Seem's fate's got you in a different plan

Its unfortunate that we gonna make you bend
Looks like today's just about to be your end

(add percussion)
I almost feel sympathy for your shame
So let me tell you how I us'ally play my game

Y'damn well can bet I can be in your face
(Cut all music) I'ma send your heart beat up a pace
(snare drum bass drum X2)

"Damn, only met a few song writers but that's the closest to what I write", Asterick rereads the kid's song, "I've written pretty brutal stuff too, but more emotional",

He almost hesitates before saying it but he does anyway; "Aside from my uncle here, you're the first person to read one of my works at this school", he gives a weary smile, "Sometimes I feel that the only way to learn about me without censorship is through my songs".

He shakes his head, "But you're good".

(Post sent early. This is the whole thing. My response to your's will come after. Stupid computer -_-)
"(Add music again)
I'ma send you straight to Hell so you better pray
Pray to God that you'll go maybe a different way

Wanna see a knife trick? Pull it out my hat
Not even got can save you-b**ch, I'll tell you that

Up against me? Humility's what you lack
Believe it when I say you going straight up on your back

Treat you like new, you want me to?
Don't think about savin' face 'cause I'ma end you
(Guitar solo again and then total pause from all instruments)
(Start up again to original music set up)

(Chorus)
(Quick cut out end)
"

"Huh, really?"

I'm quite generally surprised. But then again...

"You're actually the very first to see any music I wrote. All anyone else seen of my work was my older brother on the computer screen after it was finished and playing."

"Yeah, man. You are a good one, I used to be known for my poetry around my old school. Mainly because it gave bullies something to pick on but also because the teachers glorified my writing skill", he thinks for a moment,

"Now I'm curious; what music are you into?"

I shudder at the thought of normal poetry. I'd probably really be into it if the teachers didn't force feed it to us. I too was told by my teachers I had good writing potential in it but I wasn't ever good enough to probably tell anyone.

And oh boy is this kid in for a ride with this question.

"Ha ha ha, well lets say I like a huge variety. Just about everything except for Country, pop, and the rap that-well-"

"...my parents are originally from America and so my brothers and I got a lot of influence from that so you may not recognize this guy, but another one of my older brothers used to listen to a guy about 7 or 8 years ago by the name of Mac Miller. Basically the rapper stereotype."

"Anyway, I usually listen to stuff from when I was growing up but a majority is modern. A lot of American stuff along with the Japanese stuff."

"Other than that, I have on my phone everything from British rap, to the Celtic Harp so there is a very wide radius of stuff. What about yourself? I know rap and judging from-"

-your eyes spell it out along with-

"-your sheet there, it's the kind that actually means something. I like that."

He laughs, "Ohohoho, I am an Internet-fiend, always in the music world and it's mostly western music, actually. Actually took an English class over one summer so I could understand it and once I could understand what was being said; my mind was blown. But I listen to everything but country but mostly hip-hop, rap is such an underrated term, heh",

He fixes his posture; "I doubt you'll know who most of these people are but I love Aesop Rock, Murs, Grieves, Joey Bada$$, MF DOOM, and at the moment; Captain Murphy", he laughs at the rememberence of the video for Captain Murphy, "As for other generes; the british band 'Bloc Party' is a favourite of mine, right next to The Black Keys and Cage the Elephant.", he thinks again, "For pop; Two Door Cinema Club and Ellie Goulding, and then my all-time favourite artist who's hip-hop but tops everyone else; Echobase 13", he smiles at the memory of meeting him one time.

"There's much more but I'll save you, heh".

"You totally bet."

"Oh really?"

I light up and pull out my phone, go down the list, and put on "Lights","Tighten Up", and "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked."

"My father got me into The Black Keys and Cage The Elephant."

"I'm not really big into them, but you gotta admit those songs got all three of them famous for a reason."

This is so fascinating! For once in my life, I met someone into music as much as I am. It's also a bonus that I'm not the only kid in Yamaku that listens to something as dynamic as American music that was oldies even when we were growing up.

It also troubles me...

A usual reason for picking up music is a person has nobody or nothing else to turn to. I myself am one of the exceptions to that commonality but it still is a high chance that this is one of those cases.

I know it's not important, but all knowledge is useful to know and this possibility is noted for further reference and possible study.

Just then the bell rings.

Ah, damn. It's a good thing he sits behind me, I'd like to make another friend here. Boy am I on a role with that! I already have three potential friends!

"Ah, man. Bells don't ring when you want them to and ring when you don't want them to. Every time."

"Yep, that's what songs made me look into them, save for Ellie Goulding; my Internet friend played a different song of her's once in a Turntable session", he hears the bell ring as well,

"Ah, damn; it is when you don't want it to ring, isn't it? ".

He gets up, "Guess it's time to eat some lunch!"

"Later, man."

As my new acquaintance leaves I wonder to myself. Aloud but inaudible by anyone else accept for maybe they could hear me mumbling. Pinkie in my mouth. One of the natural habits I have when I think.

"Hmmmmmm. Such a mysterious person. Only visible condition is his arm but it must be something else..."

My eyes studying his movements.

"No limp or any odd movements, either."

"A person born without an arm wouldn't have much trouble integrating socially past the early schooling so what is he doing here."

Curiosity plagues me.

"...So a music-lover with possible depression and missing an arm enrolls in a school for the disabled..."

"Best leave this to future encounters with him. I shouldn't ask him directly either."

"...come to think of it, that's not something that should probably be asked about in a place like this. Noted."
