Takameshi, Mizo, Medical Examination. [Private]

Post by Declan Carrick on Sun Oct 27, 2013 6:53 am

Declan watched as the teachers made their way out of the station with Wilson being dragged along by Ikina. This was a very unwelcome disturbance and he took a deep breath to collect himself as now he had to examine Takameshi out of order. "You've caused a larger distraction and it's getting in the way of the other students' exams. Now that we're all situated, just take a seat whilst I search through these files to gather your folder." As Declan gets the last words out he heads back over to his desk and begins rummaging through the once ordered folders to gather the dossier. He took some time to study the contents before looking back toward the boy. "Epilepsy." Declan just says the one word before furrowing his brow into a more serious look. "You realize that after the little false attack you had today that it would make it harder to believe you right? In the case you had an actual seizure, there's a possibility that a person would leave you there just because you played the fool one time, can't be doing that ya' know. For your health and your conscience." He simply gave a look of disapproval as he stated this before going back to read some more details.

Mizo looked down at his feet, a look of shame on his face. He hadn't thought of it that way, every thing had seemed like such a good idea that he hadn't even thought of the consequences if...no, not if...when, when they got caught. He'd tried so hard to forget his Epilepsy that he'd pushed it out of his mind enough that he'd almost forgotten about it all together.
"S-Sorry sir...I guess...I guess I wasn't thinking...it w-won't...it won't happen a-again." still looking down at the floor feeling rather ashamed.

"I'd understand why a person would get involved with such a scheme. It's particularly enticing for those of whom are just acknowledging their prefered gender as attractive. That will not excuse your involvement regardless. I'll keep you to your word as is fair to. Now then, as I go and seek out the blood pressure monitor, I'll ask you to detail why you even went along with this."

Declan went out to seek the aforementioned monitor as he kept his ears peered for any forthcoming declarations. He may have to pause as attention was a fickle commodity made worse by a recurring stutter that would make repetition a very extensive effort of patience and will. Still, he had to make attempts to proceed further in the exam for the duration. The effectiveness of the investigative skills Declan has would probably be questioned. The need to get his primary job done, to him, was more important than to get Takameshi to convict his peers. Ikina-sensei would hopefully be in charge of leading that charge to credence under the guise of justice. Declan would however make well sure that it was a poor ruse set by the patient to strengthen the case made.

"Well...to be honest...At first I really d-did think that Wilson...that he was actually starting a homework club. T-Then this morning...he told me it...that it was just a front...but wouldn't say what for...he asked me to cause a d-distraction for some reason. As...As for why...Well, Wilson just has this way of t-talking that makes anything seem like a g-good idea, even w-when you aren't completely sure what it is t-that's going on."
Remembering what wade had said Mizo chose his words carefully.

"Ever heard the saying "The road to hell is paved with good intentions, "as it applies here very much. A club most definitely wouldn't be recognised just by declaring intent. Regardless of his initial intent whilst he could unofficially open a club, none of its actions would be sanctioned. He may have words as sweet as honey but his mind is somewhere back on the farm." As he states this, Declan pulled a slight ruse of his own as he reached for the monitor he also went for a pen before returning to Takameshi. "I have to calibrate the machine, it's been a while since I have." Whilst true, the real purpose wasn't to provide maintenance but an excuse to write down what he was told to the best of his ability in a timely fashion. Takameshi may not have realised it, but he implicated Wilson as at least having awareness of the events. "Just stretch your arm out and try not to move, we'll get back to the discussion after we run this test."

Taking great care to maintain a unassuming gaze so to make sure that Takameshi wouldn't know any better in regards to what he just wrote down, he wrapped the velcro lining over Takameshi's arm and started to read off the meter after it fell back to a neutral position. "124-86" Declan looked back at Takameshi and chuckled just enough to be audible. "A wee bit early in the morn to be rising in blood pressure there. If it's any condolence, the specialised exam will be skipped as I am already aware of the kind of epilepsy you have. The general records from your initial doctors assisted very much in that. The blood test however will help verify, I'll need one extra vial - none too large for this assurance."

As Declan went to look for the blood testing kit, he begun bringing the topic back to the investigation. "Why were you so willing to risk your credibility just to assist a cause you knew became a sham? Was there anything in it for you?" In these times much like the cynical 10's people still had a very self-centered apathetic view of the world, not as vast as the decade prior but still quite frosty. Having just heard Wade speak made Declan believe that it wasn't so much his skills as an orator but his skills at exploitation. There were doubts in Declan's mind as to how easily swayed Takameshi was by just what he was told unless there was a benefit.

"I...I have trouble making friends. At my old school I didn't have any at all, or ever for that matter. I had fun hanging out with Wilson. I went along with it...because I'm afraid of being alone again. I know it was dumb...But the possibility of the alternative...it scared me...a lot."
After answering Mizo looked back down at his feet again, his bangs falling across his face just enough to hide his eyes and the lone tear that rolled across his face.

(Before partaking in the reply, I offer an apology to the members of the board and the staff above that I had not been a good manager of the event and its upkeep. Even for the circumstances which arose, they are not withstanding to the outcome and the duration thereof. It is with great embarrassment that I respond so late.)

"There's not to be tearin' about. Don't allow how your life has been to keep you from embracing it. Look where it's put you lad. Hot water ever boiling for the tea. The issue I see is that you knew of only one alternative and it's one many fall into. There's more out there if you take the time to see, or rather learn to see. It's simple to say, I'll admit but trust that even if I don't empathize never being through such-"

Declan stops himself and without a moments hesitation became aware of what he was to say.

"Perhaps not in the way you feared but it surely did. In Ireland, the land of my birth, there was a friend. One of few but all I needed that kept me on the right path. His name was Morgan Shaughnessy, tall and lanky sort he was, looked right silly he did. Well, he wasn't at all silly when he spoke, quite the eloquent fellow. Used to go and get me out of the worst of it. To spare you the eons-long story, he was shot doing much the same as he always did, getting me out of trouble. Problem was he talked back to the wrong sort and got what he did for my sake. I wasn't as well practiced as I am now at medical and that is how I got the urge to come all this way here."

Declan gave an ambivalent glance back toward the sorrowful Takameshi. One of understanding yet not comforting in it's intent. Declan expunged the rest of the story knowing that it had no true corollary with the subject.

"I cannot empathize but I can sympathise as I do understand the gist of the sentiment. It is on you to progress past such a fear but do not repress it. Understand it."

Declan then focused back on the tests strictly as he sought out the needle for the blood test. "Hold your arm out again if you would please, it's not exactly the right time for this but let this be part of the narrative that life won't wait for you to grow."

"I...I had n-no idea...I understand though." Mizo replied to the personal bit of Mr.Carrick's life that he'd shared with him. It was true too, there are better options than going along with crazy ideas that could get him in trouble...or worse. Hot water ever boiling for the tea, as Mr.Carrick had put it. Mizo saw in that instant the there was more to the schools nurse than met the eye, but then again he should of known...you can't judge a book by it's cover.

Declan Carrick wrote:Declan then focused back on the tests strictly as he sought out the needle for the blood test. "Hold your arm out again if you would please, it's not exactly the right time for this but let this be part of the narrative that life won't wait for you to grow."

"Oh...OK." he said as he extended his arm
"All that time in the hospital and all those tests...I STILL can't stand needles. OH! also I don't know if it makes a d-difference...but...well I forgot to take my medication this morning...I u-usually remember...but I forgot today, is...is that going to be bad?"

"It's not good but it just returns your odds of seizing to their usual amounts. I am obligated to tell you that you mustn't forget to do this ever again." Declan doesn't make much of an acknowledgement as he would rather focus on binding the arm and drawing the blood. "These needles aren't much of a problem as how they are now are barely felt. You'll just need to keep still and you'd be fine." he reassures as he begun to draw.

After a few moments the process ended and Declan bandaged the area as he begun to speak again. "You're aware I'll need to review how your stomach feels now as well as a few more points. Get up on the hospital bed over there so we can keep this exam going."

Mizo simply nodded in understanding and did as he was told.
"Umm...I was meaning to ask...ever since my first seizure I've been having really bad headaches. I was wondering if it was some k-kind of side effect of my Epilepsy." he asked.

Declan stopped himself for a moment as he replied after taking time out to listen. "They might be, yes. Elaborate on how these come about and how you feel if you could, please. They are usually intertwined but I won't say for sure just yet." Declan decides to wait for a response rather than to begin testing. He couldn't truly start as Takameshi was speaking and he just returned from discarding the needle. Time was still running forward, nevertheless, the relevance of the question was decent enough to allow. Whereas he had leaned to skipping that portion of the exam, the state of the condition was important to know.

"Well...they usually happen in the early to mid afternoons. It's almost always like a..." Mizo stopped to search for the right word for a second before continuing "...Like a kind of pressure behind my eyes, kind of in the temples. Sometimes it feels like my eyes are trying to escape from my head and abscond with my brain in the process. I usually just lie down and close my eyes and sometimes that helps, but when they get really bad I've been taking two ibuprofen. Those seem to help about 3/4 of the time. There at least 4 maybe 5 or 6 times that the headache got so bad that I...uhh...threw up." after Mizo finished with all of the details concerning his headaches he waited patiently for the Nurses reply.

"That seems as if it's rather a migraine if it's centered in the same spot frequently. It is a common symptom of epilepsy and does come with vomiting and nausea when severe. They are more often experienced before or after a seizure. These migraines come alone if what you've told me is all you have about them, yes?

Declan with a focused look, took out a small notepad and wrote down notes of what Takameshi told him. On a separate page he wrote what he knew of the condition to run it through his mind. As a studied general practitioner, he was versed in many conditions and for all he knew, the human mind is also limited. Finding time to brush up wasn't a problem at this school, even at times such as this.

"Yes, that's every thing. The headaches do come alone, and I haven't had another seizure since..." Mizo paused for a second before going on, as if something had stopped him mid-sentence but then went on "...since the...first one." he said those last four words slowly, almost carefully, as if letting out some sort of secret that he shouldn't of by mistake. Again Mizo paused for a moment before he continued on.
"I would say that they come after I do lots of reading, but I'm not sure if that would be 100% accurate as I'm always doing lots of reading."

"Reflex epilepsy is very rare and unless it occured almost every single time, I doubt that could ever be it. If you are constantly submerged in your trigger, I'd see you on a regular basis as you'll be out of sorts more often than not." Declan then gave the boy a wary look. "Please be certain with what you truly mean as I've not forgotten why you've been made to go over where you should have gone. You hadn't had another seizure since your last one. This is correct, yes?"

Declan knew Takameshi could have attempted to rid himself of probable cause with the exploitation of his condition. A bad decision if he had done so regardless as he held his stomach fully aware of what he was doing. Nevertheless, elimination of any possible diversion from the consequences was a boon for the investigation.

Declan raised an eyebrow as he put his notepad away and decided to return to the task at hand. Takameshi hadn't gone over much new besides having migraines and there was little reason to stick to topic. "Well, if that is all, as long as you remember to take your medicine, you have not much to worry about that's new. We've dwaddled a wee bit much."

Declan nodded, "Yes, there is a way I can help. A medicine I have here called Depakene which should serve your needs well. Based on the data we have of you, we can start you on 350 milligrams of it. It should also help you with your mental state a little. Sound all right with you?" Declan knew of the other medicines available and could have wrote it off by telling him just to jog on and take an aspirin. Helping Takameshi was still at the forefront and worth more than his involvement. This was also to see if his psyche could improve a bit as Depakene was also used in patients with panic attacks and Bipolar Disorder. Anytime, two or more symptoms could be minimized or negated, Declan would be on that route already trying it.

A conundrum was being proffered here as Declan whilst having knowledge of the answer was vexed for other reasons. It wasn't the time left dangling over fleeting moments with each inquiry that did it, no, it was the reason for the suggestion. Was he fit to truly judge his adjacent condition as one that needed helping? Surely the boy wouldn't be in such a quandry now then. As quick as he doubted came the answer, bending reason to a purpose.

"It is preferred you do so daily, preventative medicine is much kinder on your senses than clawing for relief. Don't you agree?" Declan was fazed internally with his own smarmyness yet there was a reason he hoped would overcome that.
