[Open] Sleepy In Times Square Empty [Open] Sleepy In Times Square

Post by Satoshi Veach Mon Sep 30, 2013 2:16 am

Class is over.

The halls are filled with students flocking to their next class.

A blue-haired boy with glasses scurries in one direction.

A brown haired girl with a ponytail hurries in another.

One, however, is still. Arms dropped. Eyes shut. Mouth open.

It seems I have nodded off in the thick of daily activity once again.

I'm having the most interesting dream about a dinosaur with a lazer attached to the end of it's tail that is loose in a major city.

Nobody bothers with waking me. They just slide past me like I was put there when the building was put up.

That is, until someone finds their attention drawn to me.

(You talk about people in the halls, and I would otherwise assume that you're sleeping on a desk in class. Could you specify where you're sleeping, anyway?
Also, I feel as if I somehow have to justify joining an open thread and taking away somebody else's opportunity to join one, but at the same time that overly-considerate mindset would leave me unable to join just about any open thread and I feel slightly conflicted. :S)

Well, there's a reason why it's open. I can't only talk to Hawke.-All of Satoshi's close friends retired from the forum! ;P]

(Very well.)

Is this admirable or shameful? It's admirable that somebody could manage to fall asleep in such a situation, and even more so that someone could fall asleep standing up. However, it's improper. I've fallen asleep in improper places before, against a tree and on my keyboard small portions of the list. However, I don't think I've ever fallen asleep in such an improper situation as one in which everyone and everything around me are still quite active. I suppose the answer to such a question doesn't actually matter much anyway.
"How did you do that?" I ask, temporarily forgetting that the figure in front of me isn't conscious enough to acknowledge my question. After the few seconds in which he shows no signs of beginning to answer, I shake his left shoulder. It's out of a desire to have my question answered rather than out of consideration of that he'll probably get a worse reaction from somebody else. When he awakens, I repeat my question.

[After, of course.]

The quick wake up sends my current inhale into a small snort of a snore.

"Heh? Hmm?"

My eyes only open half way.

W-what?-PERSON!

"Dah! It happened again!"

My tired facial expression shows frustration that gives way to a power yawn.

My voice sifting through the yawn mimics 'The Entertainer' ice cream truck song for the few seconds it lasts.

I haven't been keeping up fully on my medicine.

Wait, did he say something?

"Did you say something? Sorry."

I look slightly out of it still.

"It happened again!"
Then this is a skill, not just a random occurrence? Odd way to word the success of an act, though; Maybe it's considered a habit instead.
"I asked how you did that. 'That' meant falling asleep standing up with stuff going on around you." I repeat my repetition. "It looked like you were asleep, anyway. Were you doing a different thing?" My eyes are fully open, displaying that I take genuine interest in this person's possible ability to fall asleep in such a manner.

He's totally new here if he, not only never heard of strang-old-Satoshi or ever seen someone do something abnormal.

"Bad sleeping disorder."

I speak half-heartedly and with a second yawn.

"Thank you for waking me up though."

My voice holds frustration and it starts to seem as though I am talking more to myself.

"I've been late more than a couple times, thanks to that..."

Bad sleeping disorder.
I probably should have guessed as much, given my location. I'll excuse it as me still getting used to things, though. Regardless, my eyes return to their usual half-closed state when I'm given the disappointingly short explanation.
Thank you for waking me up though.
I've been late more than a couple times, thanks to that...
I don't notice his frustrated tone, though his wording can still send the message just fine.
"I knew there were sleeping disorders, but I didn't know there were ones that could let you fall asleep in the middle of walking around and doing things. Standing up. That's kinda weird, but that's ok, I guess there are disorders for pretty much anything. Also, if you talk to people in hallways like this, wouldn't you be late whether you fell asleep or not?" I say, seeming to forget entirely that I'm the one that both started this conversation and is currently keeping it going.

You...look familiar...

My facial expression is the same as the boy's.

"Not really. I don't really talk in the hallways all that much. I mostly just go straight to class."

I look off to the right. Not in a frightened or even bored way.

"Sometimes I get taken hold of by someone or-in this case, at least-myself, though and end up late to class anyway."

I look back at the boy.

"My name is Veach Satoshi, by the way."

And back to diverted away.

"Feel free to call me whatever you like."

"I am Kimura Sora." I reply out of either habit or tradition; I don't acknowledge the decision enough to decide which. "The teachers know why you're normally late to class, though, so you can probably get away with this conversation without much questioning. Except there's not much to converse about right now for it to be worth doing something like that."
Not uncommon for me, I've started a train of thought entirely separate from my conversation: I've been late to classes a few times now. Why, though? I don't talk to people and I don't fall asleep standing up. Maybe I just walk slowly, or maybe I stop and think about things without realizing that I stopped to think about said things...

(His right or his left hand?
If his right:)

I stare at the hand for a few seconds before waving the remainder of my right arm back and forth slightly, causing the noticeably empty half of the sleeve to wave as well.

(If his left:)

I shake his hand. Me grip is not firm, rather it slips lightly in and out of the handshake. It's not that I am uncomfortable with shaking his hand, it's just the way that I do such. "That's good I guess. Does that mean you want to move on so you don't have to make an excuse or that you'll say you're late because you stopped and talked to me?"

[My bad, forgot to mention that Satoshi is right-handed.]

"O-oh...sorry."

My expressionless face suddenly motions to noticable regret.

My hand grips on my left arm after the mistake.

He seemed nonchalant when he made that last movement. Must of been that way for a while.

Perhaps birth? Either that or an accident early on in life.

"Didn't really look too noticable."

"It's fine."
It's actually slightly discomforting, but there's no use making any sort of a deal out of it.
"It's not that noticeable because I wear long-sleeve shirts and you can't see through shirts. Seeing through shirts would be even more awkward you probably think this is." I stop and consider that last sentence for a second or two before deciding "That was off-topic and probably didn't need explanation." (I think I'm much too entertained by what I do with Sora at times like this.) "Since you look like you don't want to talk about that, we can pretend I shook your left hand and said what I would have said afterward. I would have said 'Does that mean you're going to go so you don't have to make an excuse for being late or are you going to keep talking to me and just tell the teacher honestly that you're late because you stopped to talk with me?'"

(I feel as if the bell should ring by now, but I also feel as if that would compel Satoshi to leave and end this thread :S)

[Narcolepsy in its form as severe as Satoshi's can put you to sleep at the snap of your fingers. An older brother of mine and another's friend had a teacher with that in high school. Boy, do they have some funny stories about it happening in the middle of him teaching. X)
Anyway, it could of been earlier in the break that I K.O.ed. Just give it another second for a little more developement to at least say we know each other before leaving.]

After the explaination about why his missing hand isn't noticeable, I look at his other hand coming out of the cuff of his uniform jacket and my own two hands.

...Should be pretty noticeable. I don't know, I'm pretty sure I just had a stupid moment by not noticing his hand was missing.

I forget about the topic and just continue with the conversation between me and the boy.

Or try to before a pressing matter occupies me.

...Wait...what was his name again?

..K-..Kim~ura? Kimura, right?-God I'm just RUBBISH WITH NAMES!

I pause a moment outside of my mind.

My expression goes back to looking empty.

...

"To be honest, I don't exactly know."

"Guess it just depends on what happens next."

"What were you thinking of doing?"

(Found Satoshi's response to Sora's speech funnier than I probably should have
Also 'to make come up' is proper grammar and conveys a proper message, it's just a rather unorthodox way of going about it. Or maybe I just think so because I'm the writer)

Am I talking funny? I think my friends used to tell me I did that sometimes... "I would leave if nothing else comes up that would encourage me to stay. Do you have anything like that, anything to talk about or do?"

"Why do you ask?"

It's just a habit of mine to make noises when I'm thinking.

...Which usually ends up making me sound like Kristen Stewart but I do it anyway.

"It could just mean I made a 'huh' noise for no reason."

"Like when someone says stuff for no reason even if they aren't true."

I pause.

My eyes fixate on the target of my words.

"If those people are liars than what am I? I didn't say anything and yet I mistakenly suggested something different from what I mean..."

The thoughts he vocalizes are kinda vague and a bit hard to follow with a slight overuse of pronouns and past-reference, so I take a few seconds to piece them together into something that makes sense. "I don't know anybody who lies for no reason or why anybody would. If somebody lies, they have a reason for it." I pause a bit before adding "If they're lying with words or speech, anyway."
