[OPEN] One-Armed Bandit

It's another school day. Nothing exceptionally interesting. The only difference is that one of the class members has turned up looking a little different. Namely, Ichiko is not wearing her bionic left arm, with only the base plate embedded in her stump hinting at its existence. Being naturally right-handed, and having no doubt become accustomed to only having one arm prior to the prosthetic being installed, Ichiko does not seem to be hindered in the slightest by having one less arm today.

Until it's time for her math lesson. And it involves drawing graphs. Things which are very much impossible to draw to any reasonable level of accuracy if you only have one arm. After attempting it, and making rather a mess of it, Ichiko is forced to nudge the person sitting next to her. "Psst! Could you lend me a hand with drawing this graph?" The pun only occurs to her after the sentence has left her mouth, and with a chuckle she adds, "Sorry, that pun was not intentional" and grins sheepishly.

Itsuki looked up from his paper. He was tired and not in the best mood, but he made an effort to smile. "Sure, but I don't know how much help I'll be." He gestured to his missing left arm. "But hey, between the two of us we should be able to do something, right?"

Ichiko couldn't help but laugh at her accidental blunder. "Oh, I see...well, perhaps I can help you with your graphs as well then. We have two hands between us, I'll sure we cna manage somehow." Ichiko pulls her desk a little closer to Itsuki's.

Itsuki moved his desk closer to her's. "Thanks. I don't think we've met. I'm Itsuki Maki."

"The name's Ichiko Asari! Pleased to meet you, Itsuki!" Ichiko thrusts out her arm for a handshake.

Itsuki shook it energetically. "Nice to meet you my one-armed compatriot. Together perhaps we can conquer the evils of graphs!" He glanced around to see if anyone had heard his loud statement. Seeing no one had he smiled and rubbed the back of his head.

Ichiko chuckled again. "Yeah, hopefully. Uhh...whose should we do first? We can only do one at a time..."

"Well," said Itsuki, "You asked first and I don't like math and don't really care about it, so how about yours?"

"Okay then." Ichiko moves her math book so it's in between the two of them, so they can both see it. It's still open on the page of her earlier poor attempt. Turning to a blank page, Ichiko ponders how to co-ordinate the pair. "Uhh...I'll hold the ruler and the page steady, and then you draw the lines. Okay?"

"Alright," replied Istuki, readying himself, "I have to warn you though, I'm not know for being neat." With that he began to slowly and carefully begin the process of drawing the graph. He clenched his jaw and narrowed his eyes in concentration.

Ichiko holds the ruler and book steady as Itsuki draws. "That's working a lot better than when I had to do it all myself. Typical, the one day I don't wear my prosthetic..."

Itsuki grinned. "I never wear a prosthetic, so this is every day for me." He finished the graph and said, "Well that turned out better than expected."

"Yeah, that looks pretty good!" Ichiko shifts her book back onto her desk. "Alright, now we'll do yours!"

"Aye aye captain," replied Itsuki with a salute. He held the ruler and paper steady, waiting for Ichiko to begin.

Ichiko takes up her pencil and starts drawing the graph, carefully running the pencil along the ruler as Itsuki holds it steady.

Itsuki watched in silence as Ichiko drew the graph. "You think anyone will notice we didn't draw our own graphs?"

"If they do, I'm sure they'll understand, given the circumstances." Another couple of lines and the graph is drawn. "Alright, that looks pretty good."

"Yeah it does," said Itsuki, "Thanks."

"Don't mention it!" says Ichiko, beaming.

"Hey, anytime," replied Itsuki smiling back, "People like us have to stick together."

"Yeah, I guess so," Ichiko replies. "I'll let you know if I need help with anything else, okay?"

"Will do," said Itsuki with another salute. He leaned back in his seat, satified with a good day's work.
