[OPEN] Is Anyone Home?

Jimmy Cohen walked towards the nurse's office. The building it was in felt old, a little older than the main building did, at least. The wiry boy approached the door to the nurse's office, the wheels of the trolley that carried his oxygen tank rattled and rumbled loudly against the floor. He stopped and cursed aloud just outside the door.
"Shit."
What if the nurse wasn't in? Was he around over summer holidays? It wasn't like it mattered too much anyway, Jimmy could more or less keep a handle on his condition. He just figured if any of the staff would still be on the grounds, it would be the nurse, and surely someone needed to know he'd shown up, right? Missing an initial check-up probably wasn't the end of the world. The doctors in the hospital had barely known what to do with him, he was practically doing his own check-ups.

He knocked on the door anyway. He could afford to give it a few moments. Not that knocking was quite necessary, with the sound Jimmy's small trolley made, the nurse would have probably heard him coming from a mile off. Assuming he was in, of course.

There was some great commotion somewhere which woke Declan up from his oft-taken naps. His "powerman" sleeping schedule asked for four sets of twenty minute naps which were horrendously fragile given the short duration of each and how quickly one has to fall into REM sleep. Breaking one of these would bring to ruin days of entertainment and ruined they have been once noise destroyed any hopes of him remaining asleep. "Bugg....bast.... aaagggghhh!", the sounds of rage and disappointment of a woken man were known to give rise to the worst of humors. Declan's current expression twisted all that was once becoming into a red demon of wrinkled mass, a few veins sprouted from places not once having popped them, a frown with lines as sharp as fine blades. This was not the place, not the time to be asking of him, this was summer. A time for respite, a time for liberty as Declan would later put in his journal among more juvenile words in a slang all it's own. This was to be discarded later. After clattering with a chair and once more with a lamp, he meandered ever closer to the door.

He came to the door after a couple minutes passing, face still red from his earlier displeasure. Declan opened the door partway, having enough space to have conversation and not much more. "Good... afternoon..." he started with a bit of struggle, "... how might I be of service to you? I don't believe we've met, I am Declan Carrick, the current nurse here at Yamaku. May I know what you're doing here on your break? Is there something amiss?"

Jimmy noticed Declan's rather flustered state and couldn't help feeling a little guilty. It was obvious that he had disrupted something. What Jimmy was unsure of, was whether Declan always made such an odd impression on the other students. Or at least whether it was this type of odd impression. Jimmy couldn't tell what to make of the nurse. Declan was certainly not what he had expected...

"Uh, yeah. I just arrived here today, and I was told to come here for an initial check-up... I'm not disturbing anything, am I?" Jimmy's usual confident, self-assured speech had vanished, coming off wavering and uncertain. His Japanese had been thrown off a little and his Australian accent was coming through loud and clear. He gave a small frown in his frustration, it had been hard enough for him not to slip into English mid-sentence.

"Mate, you're not right. Woke me right up from me nap you did. It's perhaps my fault for thinking not a soul would be passing through here during the summer." Noting the accent, Declan went straight into English, appearing much less annoyed now that he was around an anglophone. It was natural for one to lose their former sentiment around familiarity.  "If it helps, we can continue this whole process in English, that is, if you'd like. Just... let me get all the way awake first, still right knackered I am." His face still betrayed his somewhat lighter tone of speaking, still not half-removed from his resting face nor his flushed appearance. The door is left hanging open as heavy steps are taken back toward the faucet in an attempt for Declan to wash his face. "Do forgive me... strangeness, I assure ye this is as rare as can be. Again, this entire occurrence is rare indeed. Have a seat anywhere you like. Oh! Take care not to hit that blasted lamp on your way in, bashed me foot across it before getting to ye." Still not right he wasn't, speaking halfway in colloquialisms through his speech. Declan wasn't known to remember where he left his tact whenever he wakes and thus hates being woken, not least for his broken sleep cycle but for all the intelligence left behind in the place where he once was off to sleep.

Jimmy entered Declan's office, feeling more at ease now that Declan was coming off a little warmer than before, the casual speech riddled with slang and dialect-specific terms helped. "Yeah, English would be good. I don't get to hear it much anymore... Sorry I woke you, Dr. Carrick. My oxygen tank isn't very discreet. I think it could probably wake the dead sometimes. Depends on the surface really. Anyway, I'm not sure what you need to know about me, I can't imagine there are many in here with quite the same... issue as me. But honestly, the doctors in the hospital were always pretty vague. I know hardly anything, but I'm not sure how much there is to know." He focused on avoiding the aforementioned lamp as he maneuvered the small but somewhat cumbersome trolley that carried his oxygen tank inside. "So how do you want to start this off?" He asked

"You'd be right there." Declan shows him what he normally shouldn't which is a glimpse at his PC screen. He realizes what he's done perhaps a second too late, and turns the monitor 20 degrees back toward himself. "No doubt you've seen, but you're the only one that comes up when I filter results. As for how this starts off, quite simple really, we go through the motions of checking your blood pressure, your pulse and..." Declan pauses for a moment being aware of the obvious,"... and usually how well one breathes, however, you'll get a test similar to those who have asthma rather than the standard test for your purposes. From there it's standard procedure, reflexes, strength, hearing, vision, height and weight measurements and blood testing. The latter of which I'll have to think about in the interval."

Jimmy chuckled, knowing that he was the only one here with this exact problem was still something of a surprise given the variation in conditions he had briefly glimpsed in the students around Yamaku, even though the way in which it had appeared was extremely rare. Dad always wanted me to be one of a kind. I doubt this was what he had in mind, though...
"Probably not many Aussies around here either, I would suppose. Yeah, I've had these kinds of tests in the hospital in some form or another. It's been a few months though, I'm particularly curious about my weight and strength." Jimmy said.
"Ready when you are, Dr. Carrick." He added, smiling.
