Art Club's Strange Member

Post by Satoshi Veach on Tue Feb 12, 2013 7:54 pm

Man, this art class assignment looks boring. Good thing I don't have to do it.

The teacher allows me to do whatever in the club only because I'm a great listener and can answer many of his questions about artistic tools and their uses with the help of my ability to infer. I'm not kicked out because my imagination never seems to stop giving me projects to work on with everything from characters to plausible future technology.

I don't know exactly why I'm here, I guess it's because I like seeing what others' projects are. Maybe it's because I like to help the class in day-to-day things if I'm ever needed including things having to do with the festivals that happen around here.

My pad is out and I'm currently working on more of Maj.Shaw, an operative in the U.S.S.C.

Yes, I finally know what I should add to him!

A light shadow is cast nearby. Someone is sitting next to me.

Huh...nobody usually sits next to me...

A young boy in crutches walks up to the empty seat a paper in hand. He takes his seat confused to why he is even here in the first place but begins drawing something. After a few minuets he curls up the paper into a ball and throws it behind him frustrated.

I don't even know why I am here. It is quiet but something is missing... He thinks to himself

He leans back in his seat, hands behind his head looking up at the ceiling.

"Having trouble with the assignment? Yeah, the only time I'm actually good at angles is people."

He's the first person to sit with me here. Might as well make conversation.

"I tried to draw a jet facing I'd say around...60° to the left once. Heh, safe to say it didn't turn out well."

If I remember correctly, the current project was to draw an object facing a way so it appears to have a 3-D depth affect.

The teacher told us to draw a point of origin and use the help of a ruler to make the angles line up but my style has always been free-handed.

Makes it more of a hobby and less of a job.

He looks at the boy sitting next to him

"Yea I'm not much of an artist. The whole 3-D affect thing is more complex then it looks."

God i'm bad at responding to other..

"All that matters is that you like it. That's the biggest reason I'm here anyway."

Just add a little touch here...now for the eyes.

My facial expression turns happier than before.

Yes...yes yes yes *line too dark* dammit!

My speech turns multicultural. A habit of mine I have when I get too excited.

*English* " Dah, ya sonofabitch, you!"

I probably look like a mad scientist to my acquaintance with my hair and random speech barely anyone can understand.

No matter. The eraser comes out.

"Whoa hey you alright?"

He gets up to look at what he is drawing It can't be that bad can it? It looks great but the dark line sticks out like a sore thumb.

"oh..."

I push a corner of my kneaded eraser into a pointy end to erase the small, dark line but instead erase the whole eye.

*Quiet english* "You mother-..MMM."

Ugh...

"Yeah, I'm fine. Give me a second and I'll be a lot better, though."

I pick up my hard lead pencil again and redraw the tiny eye.

Yes yes...this is good.

After which I add the hair and details.

"There we go! Got it!"

"Maj. Mathew Shaw" is written in English (allong with all other writing) next to the super soldier. "Grey" by a man who doesn't look to have the properties of physically being there.

"U.S.S.C." upon the man's chest plate.

For decoration, "Damn the valley" is drawn on the man's chest plate to look as if it were scratched on along with an angel-shaped image guarding a shoulder pad which extends upward.

A target also appears on the man's extra forehead armor layer while a serpent-like shadow creature haunts the firearm by his waist.

"It's a little light and the guy I was working on has a couple of awkward features, but I'll fix it later."

"Thanks. My name is Satoshi Veach."

For the first time, I look directly into Yuuji's eyes.

His eyes give the appearance of a good student. Pretty social and caring. Not threatened off the bat by someone easily.

I don't know exactly who he is but it doesn't hurt to keep a seperate oppinion of someone in the back of your mind for referance.

As always, all knowledge, good or bad, is usful knowledge.

My hand connects with his. It doesn't shake much more than once but it's fairly good grip.

Huh, so he's interested.

"Yeah. I'm a member of the art club even if I don't purposly do any of the assignments. Some times I happen to encorperate them into any current drawings and show them but only if the work calls for it."

"I still help around and answer questions during lectures, though. That seems to be all they really care about with me."

"What about you? Come here to learn how to make art or just looking for something to do with your day?"

Ah so that's why he seemed to have a hard time.

"Heh heh-you probably would hate if the class happened to be painting then. To this day, I still paint as good as I did a decade ago."

Memories of trying to paint that friggen mountain range sunset still practically haunt me.

"If I were to suggest anything, it'd be the music room to drop by. The concert bass drum isn't very hard since the music is a line with one note at a time and I'll bet it's easier than drawing when you haven't done much more than doodle. That is, if you even doodle much.."

"Ha ha, that was not a compliment for myself. I mean a decade ago I was awful and after all this time I never got any better."

Well...he isn't that far off with the jack of all trades-thing but I'm in no way a painter.

"Not necessarily. I enjoy a game of chess here and there myself. I also used to read a lot but now only a little before bed."

Jeez, I really am acting like a jack of all trades. I've never laid all of my interests out on the table like this before.

Son of a bitch, now I don't want to say how many different percussion instruments I play.

"Eeeh, heh. Yeah."

I need some strategy here.

"Lets see. I can play any mallet instrument."

That knocks out five if you count the chimes.

"There's the cymbals."

Knocks out the suspended cymbal.

"Snare drum, bass drum, timpani, piano, and drum set."

I am not going to mention how I like to sing as well. I already am sounding like a show-off without even trying to!

Wait, I know!

"I can't even touch any string instruments. I don't know why but I was never able to make a single note with them before."

I get the feeling he's lieing to me somewhere in there but i can't put my finger on it there is no way in hell that someone can play all these instruments and be somewhat proficient in them. He probably also sings I'll ask him.

"You sing as well don't you....?"

FACK! How did he know?!

"Uhh, heh. Yeah. Kinda."

"Not professionally."

Though I am in the choir club here and record any music I feel like. It was my escape from the outside world I always had since early in my life so when my voice finally changed I became better.
