[OPEN] Yukata Delivery

Post by Sayuri Motozaki on Wed Jul 31, 2013 7:34 pm

After reading about the summer festival on the noticeboard, and seeing the encouragement to wear yukatas, Sayuri decided to check whether she'd brought hers along to Yamaku...only to find that she hadn't. It wasn't worth asking her father to drive up to Yamaku just to deliver it, so she decided to just get a new one made, from the dress shop Yuuji had picked out her dress from all those months ago.

How I've changed since then.

She had ordered the yukata, made to her specific measurements, a few days ago and now it was ready to be collected and paid for. Sayuri entered the mall and started making her way towards the dress shop, however she did not seem to be in a hurry. She could, after all, collect the dress at any time today; it wouldn't hurt to look around at some of the other shops while she was here, even if there was nothing else worth buying.

Re: [OPEN] Yukata Delivery

Post by Inna Wilson on Fri Aug 02, 2013 5:32 pm

[Sorry I took so long, I was waiting to see if anyone else would be interested in the thread before violently claiming it for myself]

Inna keeps walking around the mall, seemingly in circles. About a week ago, her brother had told her about the summer festival that would be happening in Yamaku, and she was delighted to learn that, since Ellie is technically a student of Yamaku (albeit of its elementary school), she would be allowed to join the festival. After Wade agreed to take his niece there as a surprise, Inna had given him her daughter's measurements and had asked him to order a red yukata for her. A week had passed since then, and for some reason, the young woman couldn't really get in contact with her brother, so instead she decided to come pick up the yukata herself. Unfortunately, she didn't realize that Japanese malls were a bit more different than the ones in Canada, and she found herself unable to find the right shop after over an hour of walking.

Inna sighs and leans against a wall to catch her breath. She realizes that this isn't going as planned, but with the festival being only two days away, decides that she doesn't have time to quit and try again. Suddenly, the woman notices a young girl in a wheelchair, possibly still in high school, pass her by. Because of her disability, chances are that she's from the same school as Wade, so perhaps she knows where the shop is? "Well, it's worth a shot!" Inna says and approaches her with a smile.

'Hey there! I'm really sorry, but do you happen to know a shop that sells yukatas around here?' she asks after getting close enough.

[That's okay Smile ]

Well, this is a coincidence, Sayuri thinks to herself after the woman asks about yukata shops. Perhaps she'll be visiting the school festival as well. She looks too old to be a pupil, perhaps she's a relative of one of the students. In any case, I can't not help her. "Of course," says Sayuri, with a slight nod. "I actually happen to be heading there myself. I can show you the way if you'd like."

'Oh, that would be really helpful! Thanks!' Inna smiles happily as she starts walking next to the girl. 'So, I assume you're a student at Yamaku, right?' she asks after a few seconds, feeling a little awkward to walk next to someone in silence.

What gave it away, the wheelchair? Despite her slight annoyance at the perceived reference to her disability, Sayuri nods calmly. "I am indeed. I'm currently in my final year."

'I see...' Inna nods, vaguely noticing Sayuri's annoyance at her assumption and deciding to clear the issue up. 'I thought you were, since you're buying a yukata and all. You guys are having a festival in a few days, right?'

Perhaps I jumped to conclusions. "Yes, we are." Sayuri repsonds. "I'm looking forward to it, it should be fun."

'I'd certainly hope so! I mean, what are festivals if not fun, right?' Inna smiles widely. She notices that her companion appears to be a bit on the quieter side... Or at least, isn't as full of energy as she thought Japanese girls would be. The young woman thinks about offering to push Sayuri's wheelchair for her, but ultimately decides not to, as bringing more attention to her disability would probably not be a very good idea. Not to mention, when Inna herself was in a wheelchair as a child, she knew she didn't like strangers pushing her around. 'Will many of your classmates be going?' she asks, in an attempt to keep the conversation flowing.

"I should imagine that all of them would be going." Sayuri replies. "I can't think why they wouldn't, after all, many of them helped put it together, and they'd be missing out on a great deal of enjoyment. Perhaps one or two of the shyer students may not attend, but the majority certainly will."

'Ah, I see... Yeah, I guess that makes sense!' Inna smiles and averts her eyes to look at the shops. This is a section of the mall that she had somehow missed before. Suddenly, a sign catches her attention. 'Oh, that must be it, right?' she points towards the shop nearby.

"Thank you." Sayuri smiles appreciatively as she wheels herself inside. I hope the yukata I ordered looks nice, and fits properly...I see no reason why it shouldn't.

Inna waits a bit for Sayuri to request her yukata. When she doesn't, the young woman decides to take the initiative instead, and maybe help Sayuri out with her communication along the way. 'Hi, excuse me!' she smiles at the clerk. 'About a week ago, my younger brother must have ordered a red child-sized yukata. I was just wondering if it was ready! And while you're at it, can you bring out my friend's yukata too?'

The clerk nods and goes inside the storage room, then comes back with two packages, handing one to Sayuri and one to Inna. The woman quickly opens it up, revealing a silk-red yukata with a flower pattern that's exactly Ellie's size. 'Oh, this is perfect!' she says, failing to contain her wide smile as she imagines her little daughter dressed in the clothing.

Sayuri notes the words "child-sized". It can't be for herself...perhaps she has a daughter who attends Yamaku? They'd have to be young, though, this woman doesn't seem all that old... She also notes the word "friend" as the woman asks for both their yukatas. Friend? We've known each other for five minutes. We don't even know each other's names. Though...come to think of it, perhaps that's why she used the word "friend".

Sayuri is ultimately appreciative of the gesture, and accepts her package with a polite "Thank you." She too opens it up, more slowly and methodically, to reveal a navy blue yukata with white floral decoration. It looks like a perfect fit, though Sayuri cannot be certain without trying it on. She runs a hand across the fabric. Fine silk, just as promised. Sayuri smiles warmly. "It's wonderful. Thank you." She bows politely before wrapping the yukata back up again to take it with her.

'Thank you so much!' Inna says with a smile as she quickly pays the necessary amount and wraps the yukata back into the package, then heads towards the exit. After holding the door for Sayuri, she finally leaves the shop. 'Do you have anything else to do here? If not, maybe we can walk together for a little while. To be perfectly honest, this place seems like a maze...' Inna explains once the two are outside the store.

As the word "walk" leaves Inna's lips Sayuri's contented smile slips, just for a split second, before snapping back into place as though nothing had happened. "No, I have nothing else to do...I guess that would be fine. And yes, this place is rather large, isn't it?"

'Hmm, it's not really its size that bothers me. It's the design, if that makes any sense' Inna explains as the two begin moving forward. 'I mean, the malls in Canada are generally larger, but they're also really, really simple to navigate. I don't know about other Japanese malls, but this one looks pretty complicated... Either that, or I'm just not reading the maps properly!' she chuckles.

'Yeah...' Inna says quietly. For a moment, she wonders whether Sayuri just doesn't want to talk in general or simply doesn't want to talk to her in particular. But in any case, she decides it would be more polite to keep quiet, unless her companion decides to start up another conversation.

Sayuri notices her companion fall silent and wonders whether her short, straightforward answers have put the woman off talking to her. Still, Sayuri's conservation of words and general quiet nature were products of her upbringing; she was instructed to be polite in conversation, but to speak generally only when spoken to. In any case, what would she have to talk about with this woman, whom she hardly knew? For the time being, Sayuri kept quiet, as Inna did.

Inna sighs quietly, feeling a little awkward to walk in silence, but hesitant to say anything. Suddenly, her phone rings out with a generic ringtone. 'Ah, sorry, that must be my daughter! Just a second...' she smiles and pulls the phone out, then looks kind of surprised when she notices the name displayed on the screen. 'Eh? That's weird...' Inna mumbles to herself, then smiles and presses a button on the display before placing the phone next to her ear. 'Hey there, Wadey! Sorry I didn't call you after coming here, I thought Ellie and me could surprise you sometime... Did Ness tell you we're here? ... Wadey, you sound really off. Is something wrong? ... Hmm, I suppose so... Alright, I'll try to get there as soon as I can! Love you!' she smiles and hangs up the phone, then looks back at Sayuri. 'Sorry, that was my little brother! Uh... Do you happen to know where the park is? He wants me to meet him there, but I have yet to explore the town, so...'

Sayuri tries not to eavesdrop on the phone conversation - this would be very impolite - but she does pick up on the term "little brother" and the name "Wadey". Wadey...could she mean Wilson? I can't recall meeting him, but I've heard stories about him...he sounds like a mental case. So, this would be his older sister then...? Sayuri does not inquire about this, partly to avoid sounding like she'd been eavesdropping - it was none of her business - and partly because the woman had asked her a question.

"The park...I don't think I've been there yet, but I do know where it is." Sayuri thinks for a moment about whether the route they're currently taking will get them out of the mall and to the park quickest. "Yes, I believe this is the right exit. If we just keep heading in this direction, we'll come out closer to the park than from the other exits."

"It's no bother. I had nothing better to do anyway." It's not long before they make it to the exit of the mall, heading through the automatic glass doors and out into the city. "Now, it should be this way..." Sayuri sets off, glancing behind to make sure Inna is still following her and nearly running into a pedestrian. "Oh...my apologies." She bows in apology to the pedestrian before continuing on her way.
