[Open] Midnight Snack

"I'm used to it," replied Itsuki, "Still hurts like a bitch though." He sat silently for a moment before saying, "You didn't have to come out you know. But...I appreciate it."

Hawke nods.

"I get near-constant pain in my leg." He says, gesturing to his injured leg.

"Everyone's got pain I guess," mused Itsuki. He sighed deeply. At least the pain was almost gone.

With his back still turned to Itsuki, Hawke frowns a little, confused by the reaction. His attempt at breaching a common ground with the boy had taken a turn he hadn't foreseen, which left him off-guard.

"Uh, yeah. I guess they do." He says quickly, so as to not intimidate Itsuki with a silence.

"Still," said Itsuki, "You can't let that pain overcome you. I promised myself that from a young age. For some people I guess it changes after a traumatic event." He was silent for a moment before continuing, "But for me, losing my arm just reaffirmed my intention to no let the pain win." He looked up at Hawke, "You get what I'm saying?"

"I guess." Hawke replues airily, the small speech Itsuki had made resonated with Hawke, and he was busily applying the logic to his own situation. Itsuki seemed to have everything sorted out in his head, which seemed strange as Hawke assumed he had not lost his arm long ago. Why, nearly a year later, was Hawke not over the accident that claimed the use of his leg when Itsuki seemed to brush his off like it was nothing?
"You don't seem to be affected much by your arm. Mentally." Hawke says without much thought.

Itsuki was ready with a joke, but decided not to use it. Instead he said, "Honestly, I don't know why I'm not affected by it. At first it was a painful surprise, but then I just kind of figured that how things are now. I am still me, albeit a little bit lighter, and that is that."

That's either really respectable or really fuckin' naïve. Don't really know enough about him to pass judgement yet; I'll go with respectable.

"That's pretty brave of you. Lots of people undergo a lot of therapy for a wound like that."

Maybe he did and this was just him hiding it...

"Oh, yeah," said Itsuki as if this was the first time the thought had crossed his mind, "I guess they do." He slowly stood up. "We should probably go back inside. Poor Kappa's sitting in there by herself."

"Yeah, let's get back to Chiharu." Hawke says, flipping open his phone. 12.04 am.

He gestures to direct Itsuki to go first.

"Right," replied Itsuki.

He entered the restaurant and as he took his seat again he did what many people do in such situations, state the obvious, "We're back Kappa."

Chiharu blinks a few times as she says sarcastically, "Really now, I hadn't noticed."

Itsuki ran his hand through his hair. "Well then I guess you need to pay better attention," replied Itsuki with equal sarcasm.

Hawke retakes his seat and greets Chiharu with a nod.

"I'm starving, where's the food?"

"Good question," said itsuki, "I'm hungry."
